Clark County Sheriff's
Marine Patrol Partners With GEM to Celebrate National Safe Boating Week

In celebration of National
Safe Boating Week and National Public Works week, the Clark County
Sheriff’s Marine Patrol unit partnered up with several public agencies
to promote wearing life jackets. This year’s slogan, “Boat Smart from
the Start. Wear Your Life Jacket!” was painted on three local boat
ramps.
Clark County Public Works furnished the stencil and painted the
Ridgefield boat ramp, while Vancouver painted the Marine Park ramp and
City of the Camas painted the ramp at the Port of Camas/Washougal. By
having each public agency paint the ramps in their geographic areas, tax
payer savings were maximized.

Todd
Baker, Marine Patrol Deputy, says, “the importance of wearing an
approved life jacket when on the water cannot be understated, they save
lives. Using the attention of nationally recognized events help draw
attention to the effort. The concept of inter-agency cooperation saves
money in these types of projects and partnerships.”
GEM, also known as the SW Washington Inter-agency Cooperative, started
in 1993 to save tax payer money, and continues to promote efficiency in
government. This current project is just one of many currently underway.
